Emotional Temperature during history taking impacts the success of the diagnosis.
The emotional temperature of both the doctor and the client will impact the successful history and potentially alter the accuracy of diagnosis. Clients are highly accurate at determining if the doctor likes them. Doctors who dislike a client are quick to cut them off during oral history, and fixate on an expedient diagnosis and treatment plan. Once the doctor has made the psychological commitment to his diagnosis, his feelings about the client make it almost insurmountable to change gears and reconsider the diagnosis, even in the face of contradictory results. Despite the client's perception of the doctor's negative attitude, most clients do not recognize the signficance of their impressions, nor do they tend to seek a new care provider.
