Most client dissatisfaction is about the communication with the veterinarian or staff, rather than the actual medical care. In many cases, the breakdown in communication leads the client to suspect or allege negligence on the part of the doctor. Taking the time to evaluate and improve communication skills will improve clinical accuracy, client satisfaction, patient care and employee retention.
Dr Richard Bennett (formerly Spickard) brings over twenty years experience in small animal practice, emergency practice, animal chiropractic care and business management to help practices achieve a continuous upward spiral of self improvement. He holds a Credential in Veterinary Family Practice and is on the Board of Directors of the Association of Veterinary Family Practice. (www.avfp.org) He is a founding member of the Academy of Veterinary Family Practice. The Academy is working toward creating a specialty in Veterinary Family Practice to address the trend of the ever larger percentage of veterinary graduates choosing to specialize. The Association and Academy are concerned this trend will lead to a significant decline in the number of Primary Care veterinarians.
Dr Bennett has testified as an Expert Witness, establishing the Minimum Standards of Practice working with the California Veterinary Medical Board. He is a mentor in the Doctoring Program at the Veterinary College at the University of California, Davis. He has authored numerous articles on veterinary practice and communication.
